May 15th 2016 will mark the start of an AIFF (All India Football Federation) organized international football tournament for the Indian Under 16 team to be held in Goa.
International participants accompanied by their fans/supporters are expected to arrive from four countries namely South Korea, US, Malaysia and Tanzania.
The dates on which the AIFF Youth Cup is being held could give the Indian Under 16 team a great launchpad in preparation for the Under 17 World Cup to be held in India next year, should they do well. AIFF’s General Secretary mentioned in a recent interview that the purpose for such tournaments was to gauge the preparedness of the young Indian squad for the Under 17 World Cup, with similar tournaments already been played in the past and many more to come in the lead up to the FIFA World Cup.
In addition to this the 26th of May 2016 will see a draw take place for the AFC (Asian Football Confederation) Under 16 Finals that Goa’s going to host as well from the 15th of September to the 2nd of October 2016.
Qualifying for the above mentioned AFC Under 16 Finals by performing spectacularly at the already concluded qualification tournament played in Tabriz in September last year, India will be looking to become one of the four semi-finalists in the upcoming ACF Under 16 Finals to gain direct entry into the Under 17 World Cup.
We at Atlantis Watersports join the entire nation in wishing our Indian Under 16 team the very best and hope they play to the best of their ability and get the results they deserve.
Make us proud!
